Take Your Career Into Your Own Hands

At Somerset School of Massage Therapy Piscataway, the approach to massage therapy education is simple. We teach students to thoroughly understand anatomy and physiology and to apply knowledge through a competent and therapeutic massage. And because no two students learn in exactly the same manner, our teachers have been trained to employ multiple teaching techniques in the classroom.

Cortiva Institute - Somerset School of Massage Therapy was established in 1987 with a goal which has remained the same throughout the years: to prepare our students for successful careers by striving to provide the highest standards of excellence in massage therapy education. In 2002 the original Somerset campus was relocated to Piscataway, New Jersy.

Our students come from a broad range of age groups, ethnicities and professional backgrounds. Our student body includes...an executive seeking a career change...a retiree wishing to add a new facet to life...a mother looking to re-enter the workforce...a recent high school graduate interested in health care...extra income and an additional modality...and the list goes on.

All Somerset School of Massage Therapy students are connected by a sincere interest in helping others. They also understand the power and importance of natural healing and fully appreciate the rewards of a career in massage therapy.

Many graduates recount that some of their most memorable and gratifying experiences were spent in the Somerset School of Massage Therapy classroom. In fact, many of our top graduates have become so attached to our approach and philosophy they are now Somerset of School Massage Therapy instructors.

About Us

Somerset School of Massage Therapy

20 Years of Experience

Established in 1987 as the Cortiva Institute - Somerset School of Massage Therapy, our goal has remained the same throughout the years: to prepare our students for successful careers by striving to provide the highest standards of excellence in massage therapy education. We achieve this by staying true to the intent of our mission: to focus on anatomy and physiology, hands-on practice, clinical experience, professionalism and ethics.

Founders Bob and Susen Edwards, both licensed massage therapists, saw the need for developing a massage therapy school based on the highest degree of quality, professionalism, and ethical standards. Through the years, the Edwards' were instrumental in the growth and development of the profession in New Jersey and were actively involved in the governance of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA).

In September 1998, Chris Froelich purchased the school. Chris continued the Edwards' legacy through active involvement in the field of massage therapy. He was at the forefront of efforts to create a state certification for massage therapists in New Jersey and became First Vice President of the AMTA Council of Schools in 2002.

In an effort to meet the needs of an expanding student body, Cortiva opened a second campus in Wall Township in 1999. Three years later we relocated the main Somerset campus to a larger facility in Piscataway. Cortiva was acquired by Cortiva Education (New Jersey), Inc in May 2004.
